Misinformation Spreads Like Wildfire

I wanted to touch on a little bit about the recent and still-developing story regarding Stream Elements. Yesterday evening, streamer Twitter was up to its typical nonsense of spreading a rumor about Stream Elements closing its doors.

Now, we know how social media is, and it only takes a little spark to feed the beast of misinformation. I typically follow a few insiders who have shown themselves to be “experts” within their fields. They would source the information from several other sources before breaking the news. In the breakneck race to be first for breaking news, Gamesbeat had posted an article about the closing of Streamelements with information that wasn’t actually official.

They did make some corrections and updated the article, but the problem was that the story (albeit not official) was out in the wild and being picked up extremely fast.

I’m in the camp that if you don’t really have the full story of something, it’s better to delay a bit and be the better publication. Not everything has to be about getting all the clicks to appease the advertisers.

If you want a source that has good ties into the Twitch ecosystem, I would suggest following Zach Bussey. Who has a better nuanced video about this situation, and didn’t come out right out of the gate and claim that Stream Elements is closing up shop.

StreamElements officially made it known that they are NOT shutting down.

Wondering who the incoming partner is and what the changes will be going forward.
